There’s no reason to bore your tastebuds when carrying travel food. I know it’s easy to throw together some sandwiches, chips, carrot sticks and fruit and call it good, but there are other options.
I just pulled in from a 4000 mile road trip. I broke the return into five days so I could stop at a couple of national parks. That meant I needed five days of food with me.
On the way out, I carried chili, boiled eggs, herbed chicken breasts, apples, grapes, microwave sticky rice, individually packed peanut butter, gluten free bagels, and a couple of snack size bags of chips. I arrived with enough chili for another couple of meals.

For the trip home, I wanted something simple, gluten-free, easy to transport, and different. And I didn’t want to spend a lot of time cooking in advance. Walking around Amazon fresh, I discovered Tasty Bite authentic Indian cuisine. I was intrigued.
All of the products are ready to eat in under two minutes. They contain no artificial ingredients, but are chock full of black lentils, brown rice, cardamom, cashews, coconut milk, coriander, cumin, galangal, garbanzo beans, ginger, spinach, paneer, and turmeric. There’s no way to have a bland, boring meal using those ingredients.
Many of the products are gluten-free. Many are vegan. Most are vegetarian. And most are perfect for travel. I chose four pouches. I had room for 8 of them in a 6 x 6 x 5 cube that fits perfectly in an overhead compartment.
Yesterday, I microwaved some Bombay Potatoes and combined them with rice while I was cooking my breakfast in the RV. Once I pulled out, this entrée rode in the cooler. I ate it cool so that I didn’t have to locate a microwave or power port when I stopped for lunch. The spicy goodness was a real treat after several lunches of roast beef.
I also had Punjab Eggplant on hand. The eggplant cooked in tomato sauce could serve as an entrée. It could also be a side dish for some balsamic chicken I had frozen to carry on the trip.
I always feel better when I include fruits and vegetables in travel meals. The Jaipur Vegetables appeal with paneer cheese and cashews added to onions, green peas, potatoes, carrots, green beans, & raisins. These Tasty Bite vegetables have the advantage of leaving bland ordinariness behind.
If you’re tired of the same old travel food, look around. You might find something else travel friendly with bold flavors that will excite your tastebuds.
